Vacation Bible SchoolA Vacation Bible School is usually a summer event that a local church sponsors for the children, teenagers and adults to learn about Bible stories and practices of people who love God. In order to make the Vacation Bible School a success, it is necessary to start planning early. Here are some suggestions for ways to create a truly wonderful atmosphere for everyone who is involved in your VBS: 1.Get together a Vacation Bible School Committee. Gather a group of willing organizers in order to get a consensus of what would be profitable for the congregation and the people in the neighborhood. This committee will usually be comprised of a variety of interested individuals which could include the church educational director, youth minister, Bible school teachers, and any other church member with interest. The committee is usually the ones who will decide on a theme for the VBS. This theme should be one that would be appealing to young children. After the theme is set, a Biblical curriculum can either be purchased, or existing resources can be gathered that will bring the focus to the theme. 2.Choose teachers. Finding volunteers who are willing to donate many hours to the preparation of bulletin boards, props, costumes and numerous other things may be difficult in smaller congregations. This is why it is so important to start planning for VBS as early as possible. Teachers who enjoy working in such a fun environment is key to producing a meaningful Vacation Bible School. 3.Promote your VBS! One of the most important items on the agenda for the committee for Vacation Bible School will be the production of colorful, appealing advertising for the upcoming event. Participating in VBS should be an exciting time for everyone; and this needs to be conveyed in the advertisements. You may want to mail letters home, knock on doors, or use your local radio and television stations or newspaper to advertise your Vacation Bible School. |
