Cooking SchoolsMany people take their love of working in the kitchen to another level they pursue a career in the culinary arts by enrolling in one of the many cooking schools across the country. If you are one of these people here are a few general things to keep in mind as you begin your career in the culinary arts. Cooking schools teach students to plan, cook and present meals for restaurants. While in cooking school, students are expected to purchase their own tools and uniforms. Some programs may also expect the students to purchase the ingredients for special recipes or dishes as well. Ingredient selection and education are part of the training aspiring chefs receive in school. Students will learn to plan menus and create recipes. They learn about developing menus based on seasonal availability of ingredients and nutritional guidelines. Cooking schools teach students many different ways to safely prepare and present a variety of foods. Students are taught about the various techniques of cooking as well as different styles of cooking and cuisine. In cooking schools, students are taught how to make different types of foods as well everything from bread to desserts to meats and more. Budgeting and inventory control and other skills taught in culinary arts programs. Students learn how to stock different types of kitchens, depending on the kitchens location and primary use. Students may also be taught how to shop for supplies and given resources to use to obtain food and equipment for the kitchens they will work in. Courses may include having students make mock budgets for a variety of kitchen types. After completing cooking school, students may seek employment as: chefs, short-order cooks, bartenders, servers, prep line workers, restaurant owners, restaurant managers and many other places. The training students receive at cooking school is one which can be useful in finding employment in almost any geographical region and in both urban and rural settings. |
