Home School Materials

No matter what teaching method you are using, you need some amount of home school materials to carry out your lessons. Some of these materials can be home made, or can be store bought, or even donated by other sympathetic home teachers. The following is a brief list of good materials to use, and possible lessons it can be applied to.

Modeling materials such as clay, play dough or plasticene are great tools for teaching in areas like home economics, and art. Bees Wax is a great option, even for the really young child, because its all-natural, it doesnt get hard when exposed to air, and it smells like honey when worked on. The children use their hands to create shapes, and use other tools such as knives, rolling pins, cookie cutters to learn things like cutting and baking. Many of these home school materials can be found in your kitchen.

Dress-up clothes and costumes is a fun way to encourage your children to use their imagination. Dressing up in costumes motivates your child to make up stories and pretend play. The younger children can learn how to clothe themselves in this manner, and the older children can learn how to put pieces together to complete an outfit. These home school materials can be found in your closet, attics or vintage stores!

All arts and crafts material is a must in any learning environment. Different colored papers, crayons, glue, glitter, ribbons, stickers and more allow children to explore their artistic and creative side. The projects are limitless, and the products are delights to behold. Theres nothing like a child smiling proudly at her artwork.

Games are great home school materials for educating your child in the areas of cooperation, analytical thinking, and playing within fixed boundaries. With games, children must play with other players, and so an opportunity to share and co-operate exists, as well as learning to play by the rules a must for anyone growing up in the society.
