Back to School Supplies

Shopping for back to school supplies doesnt have to be an ordeal to be dreaded by families and students. If you take the time to get organized and develop a plan it can even be fun and eventually become easy to do!

One of the first things to do is to develop a plan and start your shopping early. Even if you dont have a list of the exact items your child will need, you can begin by keeping an eye out for promotions, sales and specials on basic items such as pencils, erasers and folders. If you know other parents who have older children attending the same school as your child, ask them what supplies they have had to purchase in previous years.

School office personnel are also excellent sources of information and placing a call to them may help you generate a fairly accurate list before the official one is distributed. Once you have an idea of the back to school supplies you will be looking for make a list. Be sure to keep the list in places where you can easily access it. You never know when you may come across a bargain!

As you purchase supplies, be sure to update to your list as well. Keep the back to school supplies you purchase in a centralized location. This will help you avoid buying duplicate items and teach your child about organizing and preparing for an event. Stick to buying the basics. The pencils with this years popular cartoon character may work for one year, but good luck getting your child to take the leftovers to school next year. If your child thinks plain colored folders or notebooks are boring, comprise by allowing the child to decorate them with cut out pictures or stickers that are easily available and already in your home. Not only will you save money by buying basic items, but your child will get to do a fun project to prepare them for school.
