Abstract:
The Bilingual Health and Developmental History Questionnaire is an interviewing instrument designed to elicit case history information from Spanish-speaking parents of children who have been referred for assessment by special education personnel. All questions are written in both English and Spanish and the questionnaire is meant to be administered orally by health or education professionals with strong fluency in Spanish. The questionnaire deals with family composition, hereditary illnesses, any problems the mother may have had before or during pregnancy, delivery complications, birth defects, and the growth of the newborn. Further information about the child's development, illnesses, and problems is included, as well as what treatment the child has received for his/her problems, what accidents he/she may have experienced, and what expectations the parents have for the child's education. The information elicited by the questionnaire may be used to select other types of tests that may be appropriate for the child. Results should be interpreted by health and education professionals.
