With an overall aging population, the need for healthcare professionals has increased dramatically in recent years. An RN is a healthcare professional who has received a specialized education which allows them to work in many areas of caring for the sick. Registered nurses (RNs) may also provide patient education and preventative care to people who are healthy. Nursing is a flexible career field which offers a great deal of variety. RNs perform a variety of duties in the medical field. Some of the duties may include: assisting doctors, helping surgeons, educating patients, performing lab work and diagnostic tests, administering medication, monitoring the symptoms of illness, operating a variety of medical equipment and many other miscellaneous duties. RNs perform these duties in a variety of settings ranging from private homes to hospitals. Because of the variety and flexibility offered by such a career, many people are seeking ways to become an RN. Many people have found obtaining an RN degree online to be a convenient way to pursue a new and exciting career. A quick internet search will show there are a variety of RN degree online programs available in many different formats. As with any online education program before deciding to get an RN degree online, a person should carefully research the options available. It is best to ask people in hiring positions in the nursing field, which online RN programs are reputable and accepted by the nursing profession as providing appropriate and adequate training. Choosing an accredited online RN program will help ensure a person enrolls in a legitimate program. Even though many classes are offered online for future RNs, a potential student should keep in mind that some training will need to occur outside the realm of cyberspace. Registered nurses need to have many hours of clinical experience, or hands-on experience with patients, before they complete their degree and obtain licensure. So, while much of the training can be done online, allow adequate time for real world experiences. |
