Associate DegreeIf you want to continue your education beyond a high school diploma, you have plenty of options. The most basic degree that you can earn is an associate degree, and you can earn this in any field of study. You will receive your associate degree after you finish two years of college. For many fields of study, it marks the halfway point of a students journey to a bachelors degree. While you can earn an associate degree at many U.S. colleges, they are not offered at all colleges around the world. Canada offers a few associate degree programs, and Australia recently added them to its educational framework. Both the United Kingdom and Hong Kong offer comparable programs, called foundation degrees and higher diplomas respectively. If you decide to earn an associate degree, you will have to choose from four different categories: the Associate of Arts, the Associate of Sciences, the Associate of Applied Sciences, and the Associate of Business Administration. An Associate of Arts degree is given after a student has completed two years of education and plans on continuing. They generally have majored in social sciences of humanities, though some students in general studies may also receive an associate degree of the arts. The Associates of Sciences degree is very similar, and is also given to students who want to continue school. Some students may also choose to enter directly into the workforce at that point. The Associate of Applied Science degree works well for the student attending a four-year college. It reduces some of the educational requirements that the student needs, allowing them to focus on their area of choice after the initial two years. If you are going into a business related major, then an associate degree in business administration will be the best choice for you. Again, many students go on to earn their bachelors degree in this field. For students that enter the workforce immediately after high school, an associate degree can help them get ahead at their job. Oftentimes, an associate degree can be earned with part time studies or night classes while continuing to work full time. |
